What we learn there at best is how Bell covered up an event of industry espionage.

When I read that article, i thought "wow, an entire department of engineers and physicist employed without any plan or report to hold up to and just left doing whatever they want to is something our todays companies should really have. That kind of business thinking is lost today and should be brought back."
but Wu lost his credit by such a big mistake in the main article, so I'm not convinced that something like that really was.stringrayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08729065479503588877noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839146967530098790.post-83434181128830795172010-12-07T20:26:19.348-08:002010-12-07T20:26:19.348-08:00Hehehe...

And just as Lammeth, Opeth opened the growling doors for me. From that point onwards, I gradualy grew more into the extremes that music has to offer, both towards the growly side and the more "genteel" side. The growls took me to bands like Death and Vader. The other side took me towards Zappa, Beefheart, and even to jazz ans some modern classic. Something I never guessed I would have ever liked some years ago.

I'm not saying I'm always as open minded as I wish I'd be. I recall for example a discussion about Panzerballet on the ProgPower Europe forum where I formed my opinion too soon, before a live experience. And I categorised the band as a jazz act. Well, my judging was horribly wrong as it turned out.

My point? Well, I think everyone of us can enjoy a broader scope of the music industry than you could ever imagine. As long as you're open to anything, you will discover your taste to be broader than expected. And I can only hope that more people are willing to do this.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15181255147259872529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839146967530098790.post-31205928191952879532010-02-22T12:31:43.043-08:002010-02-22T12:31:43.043-08:00I've spent the better part of two weeks trying...I've spent the better part of two weeks trying to think of a good reply to this post. But there isn't much to say, you've covered it very well and I look forward to future installments.

I have a few comments though.
Communication: severely neglected by so many bands. Some might laugh at Metallica for having group therapy, but a band is very much like a marriage. Take it from someone who knows, who saw his marriage and band following disturbingly similar arcs. The band survived, the marriage did not. The issues and communication needs in both were freakishly similar.

Your young driver analogy for changing rules: I agree, and it is both painful and liberating to give up that fear. You can spend your time trying to figure out what people will want and if they don't like what you offer, you feel defeated. Maybe you'll become a clone and be successful but unsatisfied. On the other hand, you can say "screw the public, this is for me. If someone else like it, fine, but I'm not worrying about it" the fear will disappear. You will be artistically liberated. But then you have to accept that maybe no one will ever 'get it,' no one will like it, and you'll never make a living at it. That's why I have a day job.Sean Gillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04076164080096427562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839146967530098790.post-83366383093987005422010-02-21T23:31:15.365-08:002010-02-21T23:31:15.365-08:00Just wanted to put this up:

Many people give up playing for one reason or another, reasons for it can be quite many. I did so too, and after I got kicked in my ass by a very good friend 4 years later, I literally walked through a valley of tears over one year long. Seeing all the lost skills of yours is so heavily discouraging, you really need an unearthly strong will to start learning it all again.

John Arch said about A Twist Of Faith:

"...All those muscles took a while to develop again. I knew I'd be better off being polite and becoming part of the community. And it's been great. Heck, there are probably still some tag board regulars that don't know I'm in a band.

As these small groups of intense supporters become a good way for indie artists to get known and make a living, we artists have to adjust our approach. I agree on the story, too. Still, it's the kind of thing I'd want to see like that. I didn't notice anything odd looking around. I also saw a trailer for Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland. Definitely something that can actually benefit from that effect since it's a weird Tim Burton thing anyway. I don't see a reason to see a movie like Blindside in 3d.

I've heard some 5.1 mixes that were gimicky. I also heard a Seal acoustic cd where every instrument had its own speaker. And something else that brought out things missing or buried from the original. I think I'm envisioning a type of music that requires a 5.1 system, not just remixed from stereo.

Country music has a huge market so there is more room for new music. Also, I have to think that since they like pushing new music (read: new young good looking performers) that a lot of artists never make more than one or two records.Sean Gillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04076164080096427562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-839146967530098790.post-24814117832175113412010-02-08T09:20:19.737-08:002010-02-08T09:20:19.737-08:00You make some good points in your article. All of the terrestrial radio stations out there are still pushing the same tired old classic rock. People probably don't buy to much of that anymore either because they've heard all those songs for the thousanth time already. I think one exception to this is in country music. That industry seems to be reveling in all of their sucess and pushing new artists all the time.Lamnethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02576817310804407489noreply@blogger.com
